Momentum (show momentum)

Definition

Momentum is the combined direction of a live show's leading signals, chat velocity, bid pacing, viewer count and sales rate, read against the show's own earlier baseline. A show has momentum when those are flat or rising and loses it when they fall together.

Momentum breaks are the moments live selling is won or lost. Sales per hour in a typical Whatnot show falls to a fraction of its opening rate by the second hour while prices barely move, meaning the room empties before the prices do. A host who notices the break early can run a giveaway, switch category, pull a headline item forward or end the show; one who notices it in the post-show report cannot.
