Chat velocity
Definition
Chat velocity is the rate of messages in a live stream's chat, measured per minute. It is a leading indicator of buying: rooms that go quiet in chat go quiet in bids a few minutes later.
Chat velocity is the fastest-moving signal a host has. A spike means the room is reacting to something, a drop means attention is leaving, and the gap between chat volume and bid volume tells you whether people are entertained or shopping. Tools that watch shows in real time use chat velocity and bid pacing together to call momentum breaks before they show up in the sales total.
