Average sale price (ASP)

Also called: Average order value, AOV, Median item price

Definition

Average sale price is the mean price of items sold in a show or period. Because a few high-ticket items pull the mean up, the median item price is usually the more honest number for live selling.

Live platforms sell large volumes of cheap items, so means and medians diverge sharply: a mean item price three to four times the median is normal. A seller whose ASP rises while unit count falls is moving upmarket; one whose ASP falls while units rise is clearing stock. Neither is wrong, but they are different businesses.
